GP Trainee cleared of all GMC charges

Writer: AdminAdmin

Sunil Abeyewickreme, Partner at gunnercooke llp, led the team which successfully acted for an ST3 Registrar in a three week fitness to practise hearing before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal in Manchester.

Leading Counsel, Mary O'Rourke QC, was instructed by gunnercooke llp and appeared as Counsel for the Doctor.

The GMC initially alleged that the GP Trainee had contravened various aspects of Good Medical Practice and that the doctor's fitness to practise was impaired on a number of counts including allegations of dishonesty.

Following an 18 month GMC investigation, the hearing before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal commenced on 2 January 2018 with the dishonesty charges dropped and the remaining charges related to record-keeping on EMIS Web.

Once the GMC's case has been closed, half-time submissions were made by Mary O'Rourke QC on behalf of the doctor and four further allegations were dismissed.

The final determination was that there had been no conduct amounting to misconduct and as such the practitioner's fitness to practise was not impaired.
